It’s no secret at this point that Conor McGregor was an exceptionally bad matchup for Eddie Alvarez. The combination of McGregor’s speed, accuracy, and punching power, combined with Alvarez’s somewhat open, right hand-heavy striking style was just made for Alvarez to get cracked hard at UFC 205. And he did... a lot.
By the time the fight was over, just halfway through the second round, Conor McGregor had knocked Alvarez down 5 times. For a fighter like Alvarez, who had only been TKO’d once in his long career - by Nick Thompson back in 2007 - such a definitive loss hasn’t been easy to swallow.
