Maybe UFC interim titles do matter, after all.
Newly-crowned interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier, who beat reigning featherweight champ Max Holloway via decision last weekend at UFC 236, has teased that he will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight title unification bout later in September.
‘The Diamond’ posted a cryptic tweet on Thursday evening hinting at a summer showdown with ‘The Eagle.’
“Gonna be a September to remember! #undisputed,” Poirier posted yesterday.
Shortly after his win over Holloway, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Poirier would go on to challenge Nurmagomedov for the official lightweight title.
