Just days away from the UFC welterweight championship bout between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson at Saturday’s UFC 209, the promotion announced that Demian Maia would be taking on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211 on May 13.
The news came as a surprise since Maia told the media after UFC 205 that the promotion gave him two options after Woodley and Thompson fought for a draw in New York: wait for the rematch and fight the winner, or take another fight.
Maia chose to wait, but the promotion seems to have changed its mind on the Brazilian’s future.
