UFC 225 was one of the deepest cards from top to bottom offered by the Las Vegas-based promotion in quite some time.
From the UFC Fight Pass prelims to the pay-per-view main card, there were plenty of bouts with championship and rankings implications. One matchup stood out like a sore thumb, however, and that was the welterweight showdown between former WWE superstar CM Punk and Mike Jackson, both of whom possessed underwhelming 0-1 career marks.
In theory, Punk vs. Jackson was on the pay-per-view draw because UFC 203 – which featured Punk’s Octagon debut – drew a reported 450,000 buys, which is on the high end for a card not featuring the likes of Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey or Brock Lesnar.
