It appears eight is now Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone’s (pictured) lucky number. After posting his eighth straight win inside the octagon with Saturday’s TKO victory over John Makdessi, UFC president Dana White has anointed Cerrone the lightweight division’s top contender.
White revealed Cerrone’s next dibs status in an interview with UFC.com following UFC 187.
“Absolutely, Cowboy’s the contender,” White stated. “He’ll fight anybody, any time. He always keeps his composure, he picks his shot, he takes his time. He looked great again tonight. Cowboy’s next in line.”
Cerrone, who is one of MMA’s most active fighters, will now have to wait until champion Rafael dos Anjos’s surgically repaired knee is mended before getting his crack at the crown.
