Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Costas Philippou, 35, has retired from active mixed martial arts (MMA) competition following a unanimous decision loss to Gegard Mousasi at the UFC Fight Night 66 event last May in the Philippines.

Philippou (13-5, 1 NC) made a name for himself with a five-fight winning streak from 2011-12, but was unable to keep that momentum going when matchmakers turned up the heat.
