Cormier on UFC 229 brawl: McGregor ‘didn’t deserve that’ but religion, family and country isn’t for promotion

Daniel Cormier says a brawl broke out after Khabib Nurmagomedov’s win over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 because the fight was “really personal” for the Russian champ.

The UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, who is a Nurmagomedov teammate at American Kickboxing Academy, reacted to the UFC 229 post-event brawl in a tweet early Sunday morning. “DC” said several factors played a part in the highly-anticipated lightweight title fight, and that’s why things were so heated even afterwards.

“Two wrongs don’t make it right,” Cormier wrote. “Conor didn’t deserve that. No one did. But some things aren’t for fight promotion.
