Coach: Donald Cerrone's future is in UFC welterweight division ... unless 'compelling' fight turns up

When former UFC lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone takes on short-notice replacement Alex Oliveira in the UFC Fight Night 83 main event this Sunday night (Feb. 21, 2016), it will not only be a special "Cowboy" vs. "Cowboy" matchup, but it marks the first time he will compete outside of the 155-pound division.

The New Mexico-based combatant has fought exclusively in the lightweight division for the entirety of his 10-year career, but a crippling knockout loss to current 155-pound king Rafael dos Anjos in December had him rethinking his position on the matter. Cerrone saw only one way to rid himself of his underwhelming performance and that was by taking a contest two months later in an entirely new weight division.
