By now, most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are aware that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Chris Weidman will no longer be competing at the upcoming UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for June 4, 2016 inside The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Now they know why.
His former opponent, reigning 185-pound titleholder Luke Rockhold, is expected to remain on the card. Leading candidates include longtime division contender Michael Bisping and former Strikeforce nemesis Ronaldo Souza; however, nothing is official at this time.
Nothing except Weidman's injury.
His UFC 194 loss to Rockhold, which came by way of fourth-round technical knockout last December, was the first of his pro career.
