Canelo Alvarez to drop WBC middleweight title, bout with Golovkin uncertain

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is still trying to negotiate a fight with Gennady Golovkin, but will drop the WBC middleweight title due to the 15-day negotiating period limitation imposed by the sanctioning body.

Saul Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya will not be dictated to by the WBC. Canelo currently holds the WBC middleweight title, which he defended on May 7th by knocking out Amir Khan. After that defense, the sanctioning body set fellow 160-pound kingpin Gennady Golovkin as the mandatory challenger for the belt, giving the two camps 15 days to negotiate a fight.

As expected, a bout has not come to fruition yet with the clock ticking down.
