It looks like Valentina Shevchenko will get a chance for revenge against Amanda Nunes.
Shevchenko solidified her status as the No. 1 contender in the women’s bantamweight division at UFC on Fox 23 on Saturday, as she submitted Julianna Pena with an armbar 4:29 into the second round of their headlining bout in Denver. It was a surprising turn of events for the woman known as “Bullet,” who struggled with Pena’s pressure and grinding style before turning the tables on her opponent with the fight-ending submission.
Nunes, now the reigning 135-pound queen, took a hard-earned unanimous verdict over Shevchenko at UFC 196 last March.
