Ilia Topuria claimed 145-pound gold in emphatic fashion, as he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski 3:32 into Round 2 of the UFC 298 headliner at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on Saturday night. At just 27 years old, Topuria is 15-0 with plenty of star potential as the promotion’s first-ever champion from Spain. On the other side, one statistic shows how Father Time might simply have caught up with Volkanovski: Fighters age 35 and older are now 1-22 in UFC title bouts at welterweight and below.
