Brook defends his trainer for stopping GGG fight: ‘It could’ve ended up seriously bad’

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook defended his trainer’s decision to throw in the towel during the 5th round of his middleweight title fight vs. Gennady Golovkin.

Kell Brook’s valiant effort against Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) ended in defeat, as Brook’s trainer, Dominic Ingle, chose to throw in the towel after Golovkin dominated the 5th round, even without a knockdown. Brook suffered a broken eye socket in the 2nd round, and he admitted in the post-fight interview that he was seeing “3 or 4” of Golovkin from then on.

The corner’s decision to stop the fight was met with boos from the London crowd at The O2 Arena, as the fight as a whole wasn’t a blowout, and Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) was taking big punches from GGG, but he wasn’t out on his feet.
