Boxer Sergey Kovalev charged with felony assault for allegedly punching female, causing ‘major injuries’

Former light heavyweight boxing champion Sergey Kovalev has found himself at the center of a very serious situation regarding the alleged assault of a female in June. TMZ Sports reports that Kovalev was arrested in the summer following an an alleged incident where Kovalev inflicted “major injuries” from striking a woman at a party in Big Bear, CA.

He has since appeared in court, facing a charge of assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury, which is punishable by up to four years in prison. Kovalev pleaded not guilty to the charges, and is scheduled to make another court appearance in March.
