While prominent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotions like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) have begun their ascension into the New York MMA market with scheduled events like UFC 205 and WSOF 34, Bellator MMA has come up short in the race for "Big Apple" supremacy.
Not to worry. Bellator president Scott Coker insists that the promotion will hold a mega event in New York City sometime in 2017, despite failing to book a Liam McGeary vs. Phil Davis light heavyweight title fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn before year's end due to scheduling issues.
