Sixteen fighters received extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of Bellator: Dynamite 1, including headliners Liam McGeary and Tito Ortiz. The California State Athletic Commission released the information Tuesday, as first reported by MMA Junkie.
McGeary defended his Bellator light heavyweight title with a first-round submission of Ortiz, but both fighters ended up attached to a list of nine athletes potentially sidelined for 180 days due to possible injuries suffered during the event.
That list reads as follows: McGeary (lt. medial collateral leg strain), Ortiz (neck pain), Josh Thomson (right hip pain), Emanuel Newton (fracture in right rib cage), Muhammed Lawal (right rib fracture), David Blanco (right hand fracture), Nick Pica (first metacarpal fracture), Matt Ramirez (right elbow pain), and Joe Neal (fractured left thumb).
