Bellator 206 fight night weights: How much of an advantage did Gegard Mousasi have?

Gegard Mousasi’s size difference was not insignificant — in the cage and in the numbers.

Mousasi weighed 200 pounds on fight night at Bellator 206 last Saturday night in San Jose, Calif., according to a document obtained by MMA Fighting from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Rory MacDonald, his opponent, weighed 189.4 that night — a difference of 10.6 pounds.

MacDonald, the Bellator welterweight champion, was moving up to challenge for Mousasi’s middleweight belt. Mousasi won the bout by second-round TKO in a comprehensive performance to retain the belt.

Mousasi’s weight gain from weigh-ins to the fight was 8 percent, which is well below CSAC’s regulations.
