Michael Chandler is still next in line for a shot at Brent Primus’ lightweight title.
In the main event of Bellator 197 in St. Charles, Miss., Chandler was supposed to rematch Primus for the belt he lost due to injury at Bellator NYC. It was not to be though as Primus was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury and longtime Bellator veteran Brandon Girtz. stepped up on a month’s notice to take the fight. Unfortunately for Girtz, Chandler looked like a man on a mission on Friday night, bullying his way into a takedown that separated Girtz shoulder before locking on an arm-triangle choke that put the durable veteran to sleep four minutes into the first round.
