Rafael Carvalho nabbed the upset win over Joe Schilling at Bellator 136, but he may have come out the worse for wear. Carvalho was one of six fighters who received potential six-month medical suspensions in the aftermath of last Friday's Bellator event, having suffered a possible broken jaw over the course of his split decision over Schilling, according to information received by MMAFighting.com from the California State Athletic Commission.
Carvalho will now required to receive physician clearance on a potential right jaw fracture or be forced to sit out six months.
In addition to Carvalho, five fighters received similar six-months medical suspensions for potential injuries sustained during Bellator 136: Alexander Sarnavskiy (right knee fracture), former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov (right hand fracture), Saad Awad (right foot fracture), Fabricio Guerreiro (left hand fracture), and Jay Bogan (left knee fracture).
