RIZIN Fighting Federation, the upstart mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion headed by former PRIDE boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara, announced earlier today (Weds., Dec. 9, 2015) that BAMMA import Brett McDermott will be joining its upcoming eight-man heavyweight tournament.
McDermott (5-2), who was last seen beating the brakes off Pelu Adetola at BAMMA 23 in Birmingham, England, replaces the injured Mark Godbeer and will throw down against former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal.
The Rizin heavyweight tournament goes down Dec. 29 in Japan, with the semifinals (and finals) taking place on New Year's Eve, the same card featuring the long-awaited return of Fedor Emelianenko (more on that here).
