As Georges St-Pierre Retires, Saying Goodbye to the MMA GOAT

Anderson Silva has the title defenses. Fedor Emelianenko has the mystique. Jon Jones has the genius. But there can only one, and on Thursday he stepped before the assembled media to announce his retirement. The former welterweight kingpin, middleweight champion, and the greatest of all time in MMA: Georges "Rush" St-Pierre.

"There's no tears," he said at the retirement news conference in Montreal. "It takes a lot of discipline to retire on top. It was a long process in my mind, but it's time to do it."

His GOAT status may not be unanimous, but it's not exactly a hot take, either.
