Alistair Overeem knows he would probably be knocking on the door of title contention right now if not for the result in his fight against Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
On that night in December 2019 at UFC on ESPN 7, Overeem had won all four rounds on every judges’ scorecard before Rozenstruik mounted a comeback in the closing seconds of the final round. Rozenstruik floored Overeem with a punch that ultimately split his lip in two and the fight was stopped with Rozenstruik being declared the winner with just three seconds remaining.
That’s one of many reasons why the former Strikeforce and K-1 Grand Prix champion is open to the idea of running back that matchup following his win Saturday over Augusto Sakai at UFC Vegas 9.
