Al Iaquinta has been pushing for a fight against former two-divisional champion Conor McGregor and believes that he has a hunger that the Irish superstar can’t match.
“Ragin’ Al” is officially ranked No. 4 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight rankings after his impressive unanimous decision victory over Kevin Lee last December. The 31-year-old has won six out of his last seven fights with his only loss coming via unanimous decision to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 233 last April, as a last-minute replacement.
Iaquinta, a New York native, attended the UFC’s debut event on ESPN on Saturday in Brooklyn and during a media scrum, maintained that McGregor’s loss to Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 showed nothing to merit an immediate rematch, and that Tony Ferguson deserves the next shot at the title.
