This Saturday, in the main event of UFC 303, Dustin Poirier will make what is most likely his final bid at the promotion's lightweight title. He has even gone so far as to suggest he will retire after the fact, whether he's successful or not.
Poirier has twice tried and failed to win the undisputed lightweight belt, first against Khabib Nurmagomedov, and later against Charles Oliveira. Despite having some success in both fights, he was submitted each time.
The champion in the Octagon this time around will be Islam Makhachev, a teammate and friend of Nurmagomedov, argued by some to be even better than the former champion.
