Marvin Vettori will meet Darren Till in the UFC on ABC 2 headliner and the event is due to take place on the 10th of April at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. This will be a second UFC main event opportunity for Vettori and is being seen by many as a potential title eliminator.
Not only is this fight being billed as a potential title eliminator, but many onlookers also believe the contest will decide who is the best middleweight in Europe. This is a hugely important fight for both men and Till is coming into the octagon on the back of a unanimous decision defeat to former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. Having defeated Kelvin Gastelum in 2019, this will be a second fight at 185 lbs for the Englishman, who is currently fourth in the middleweight rankings behind Whittaker, Paulo Costa, and Jared Cannonier.
Interestingly, Till is one place above Vettori in the world rankings yet is the outsider to win this contest with the bookmakers. That is perhaps because Vettori is currently on a four-fight winning streak and will be coming into the meeting with Till full of confidence. The same cannot be said for the Englishman who lost his previous fight.

Vettori is clearly backing himself to succeed and speaking ahead of the fight, the Italian said, “I’m already the best middleweight in Europe,” before continuing, “This guy keeps getting positions out of nowhere without fighting. But now I get to fight him and prove it, and I get to prove that I’m the best again. I think even watching the fights last Saturday (with Derek Brunson vs. Kevin Holland), I’m on a different level, and I’m going to show it and fight for the title. I’m mentally, physically, and technically on a different level. I’ve heard him say, ‘He’s going to use strength, and I’m going to use technique.’ I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, you’re talking about technique? You’ve probably been skipping grappling for the past 10 years, and you’re talking about technique because your punch looks kind of clean?”
Big words indeed from Vettori and the bookmakers believe he is going to back up his claims inside the octagon. To set up this fight, Vettori beat Jack Hermansson in a main event in December and did so with little notice ahead of the fight. However, this fight has been long in the planning and has allowed Vettori to prepare properly. The Italian believes he will be due a title shot if he wins this fight and would like a rematch with current division champion Israel Adesanya.
Interestingly, Adesanya has said he is looking at Till as his next opponent due to their stylistic match up of striker vs striker, on more than one occasion, but Vettori has a different plan in mind.
