UFC superstar Conor McGregor announced his retirement from the sport on Twitter early Tuesday afternoon.
I have decided to retire young.

Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya's later.
McGregor's retirement comes as a shock as he was scheduled for a rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 200 on July 9, and he had stated the goal of wanting to do what no one had done in the UFC before, holding titles at several weight classes.
Many think this decision was heavily influenced by the death of fighter Joao Carvalho. Carvalho died from the injuries he suffered in a fight earlier this month - a fight which McGregor attended.
"To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking," McGregor wrote on Facebook last week as a reaction to Carvalho's death.
There was some speculation about McGregor potentially making some WWE while he was still fighting in the UFC, and there are already rumors that he will soon make the jump to the WWE full time after his retirement.
