It looks like Nicolás Mezquida is in Carl Robinson’s plans after all. The Vancouver Whitecaps announced this week that they have signed Mezquida to a contract extension through the end of 2018, with an option to renew for an additional year.
Mezquida seemed to be the forgotten man in the Whitecaps midfield at times last year. The Uruguayan attacking midfielder started in only half of Vancouver’s MLS matches in 2016, and made a further 11 appearances off the bench.
He only lasted the full 90 minutes twice last year in the league. Struggling with injury this preseason; 13 minutes against Philadelphia last weekend was his first appearance.
