After a successful World Cup qualifying tournament, the United States Women’s National Team returned to action against Portugal. Despite only being a friendly match, the contest held an underlying importance as the USWNT had the opportunity to earn their 500th victory.
When all was said and done, a lone goal from Jessica McDonald in the 42nd minute proved to be the difference. Portugal did well to keep to the USWNT at bay and produced a great result in their own right.
Alyssa Naeher had the clean sheet for the U.S. in net. The Americans have not allowed a goal in 794 minutes of play.
