The U.S. Women’s National Team showed several effective formations in recent years of competition under head coach Jill Ellis. She shifted her players into a 4-5-1 formation in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but her latest lineups have been turned through an array of 4-3-3 versions that prove effective.
Ellis isn’t shy about tinkering with her USWNT, but when she began focusing on the 4-3-3 almost exclusively, her team had an unbeaten streak that started with a 4-3 win over Brazil and lasted a year and a half. The style to lead the team forward had seemingly been uncovered, even if there were different wrinkles each time.
