For years, the U.S. Men’s National Team has been dubbing young talent after young talent the ‘striker for the future’, yet no one since maybe Eric Wynalda or Brian McBride has been able to nail down the position for their own.
One could make the argument for Jozy Altidore. After all, he does sit third on the USMNT’s all-time scoring list. He has been consistent when healthy, but that is always a big ‘if’. Further, Altidore never really lived up to his hype and unfortunately came up short in 2014 because of injury. The bottom line is, he has left us wanting more and isn’t a long-term solution.
