The U.S. Open Cup has reached its fifth round of competition, which means that MLS sides are now firmly entrenched in the action. The action kicked off last night with the Fire defeating the Crew 2-1 and the Sounders downing RSL on penalty kicks.
Tonight, however, people may see two names on the list of fixtures that they may not be so familiar with. These two names are the New York Cosmos and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
Both the Cosmos and Strikers play in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Widely considered as the second tier of the American soccer pyramid, the NASL is the only lower league to send teams to this stage of the competition this year.
