Well, I can’t say I was expecting that. New York City FC arrived in Canada hoping to earn their first victory of the season, finally earning a result that their recent performances deserved. Instead, they ran into a superb Toronto FC, inspired by the debut of the latest Designated Player.
In the end, it was not close. A 4-0 win that could have been a whole lot worse, Toronto were in a different class to their visitors, playing with panache and precision that Dome Torrent’s team could not contain. Some fabulous goals, complete control in the midfield, and a dominant display, this was Toronto at their best and New York at their worst.
