Toronto FC thrashed D.C. United 5-1 on Saturday night at BMO Field. As expected, TFC dominated the ball, while United were content to sit back and defend for most of the first half. The home side were rewarded for their initiative in the 32nd minute when midfielder Marky Delgado pounced on a rebound to put the Reds ahead.
Trailing by a goal to start the second half, the visitors gradually turned the tide by committing more men to attack, forcing Toronto to become the more defensive of the two teams. And eventually, D.C. profited from their efforts when Lucas Rodriguez scored from a corner kick in the 93rd minute to send the match into extra-time.
