With Major League Soccer in the midst of a World Cup international break, the off-week presented an opportunity to take in a different level of competition. With several NPSL and PDL games being played across the country, soccer fans everywhere could watch hidden local talents.
I had the chance to watch a match between the Rhode Island Reds and Boston City FC, two rivals in the NPSL Northeast. The action on the pitch was intense in front of a modest crowd on a high school football field. The teams duked it out to a 2-2 draw and Reds striker Fabrice Dogbey made club history becoming the all-time leading scorer with his last-minute penalty.
