St. Louis MLS expansion team will open with sleek downtown stadium

The St. Louis MLS expansion team has shown soccer-specific stadium plans to civic leaders and the public. But parties still want the security of finalized plans and explanations.

The downtown St. Louis soccer stadium will seat between 22,000-25,000 fans and will cost about $200 million.

By design, much of the construction cost will come from private investment through the ownership group.

St. Louis Board of Alderman President Lewis Reed has said the city will own the stadium and will cover any financing shortfall. The exact amount the public can expect to cover hasn’t been released.
