Well, there were not many who expected that. The Portland Timbers came to Children’s Mercy Park, they saw their rivals, and they duly conquered. Sporting Kansas City fluffed their lines and will be ruing yet another playoff exit thanks to a singular goal.
Sporting KC enjoyed the better of the match, especially in the first half. But they could not make their dominance pay, only holding a slender, one-goal lead. The Timbers then came roaring back in the second half, with their two star attacker, Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri, scoring all three goals and ending the tie.
