A week ago, you would be forgiven for believing that Sporting Kansas City’s playoff dreams were over. A heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Orlando City, another team chasing a late-season playoff push saw them slip to and seemingly out of contention altogether, eight points behind the final playoff spot with only nine games remaining.
However, two wins against Western playoffs rivals since then have seen Sporting KC hang onto slim postseason hopes. The second of those victories came on Thursday night, a hard-earned 1-0 win over Minnesota United. Erik Hurtado notched his second goal of the season, sliding around Vito Mannone in the 87th minute to send Children’s Mercy Park into raptures.
