Sounders opens new DP spot with Valdez exit to Paraguay

Nelson Valdez never quite lived up to the expectations in Seattle. But even he would be the first to admit that. Not for a lack of trying, but the Sounders designated player for most of his time was known as the striker who could not score.

However, as if written for a movie, Nelson’s first goal in over a year came in spectacular fashion. His game winning header at home in the playoffs to help the Sounders stay alive will likely be the memory that most fans remember him for.

If you had asked the organization or fans, if they could win the title, but have a DP struggle all season, of course they all take it.
