Coming off a disastrous loss to Los Angeles FC at the weekend, the Seattle Sounders were looking to regain confidence at home against the San Jose Earthquakes. On paper, this seemed like a match the Sounders should have had no trouble winning, but the Earthquakes showed the league once more that they are trending upwards following a poor start.
Shea Salinas ignited the Earthquakes with two goals and appeared to be the difference for the away side. But then everything changed in a two-minute stretch as Kelvin Leerdam and Harry Shipp scored in the 65th and 67th minutes to level the scoreline.
