Most interim-midseason appointed coaches would be happy to take a team that was light-years from a playoff spot to suddenly be favored to finish in at least 5th place. Most fans of that team would be happy too. Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer, however, is not.

In an interview Tuesday with reporters, Schmetzer was asked whether or not he would be disappointed if the Sounders didn’t make the playoffs after such a good run in the last few months.
I would consider it a failure if we don’t win the MLS Cup.
