Brian Schmetzer has turned many aspects of this Seattle Sounders team around since he took over for Sigi Schmid. One of these things is the defense. Since Schmetzer took over the Sounders backline has been hard to break, with the exception of the Timbers 4-2 win against the Rave Green. One huge reason for that is the resurgence of Chad Marshall.

In the games that the 3-time MLS Defender of the Year has played in since Schmetzer’s appointment as interim coach, Seattle has only let in 12 goals in 10 games and excluding the terrible game against the Timbers, 8 goals in 9 games.
