In shocking MLS news on Monday, The San Jose Earthquakes announced the hiring of Matías Almeyda as their next head coach. The 44-year old ex-Argentinian national team midfielder spent the past three seasons at Chivas de Guadalajara where he amassed a record of 58-38-41, winning four trophies including the CONCACAF Champions League most recently.
A number of issues, including how to reinforce the squad to remain competitive, led to Almeyda and Chivas relationship ending in June.
Since his departure, Almeyda has been heavily linked with a number of clubs such as Leeds United, Celta Vigo, Atletico Nacional and national teams such as Costa Rica and Mexico.
