Sacramento Republic FC, an expected Major League Soccer expansion team, recently got a unanimous City Council vote for their $252.2 million stadium. The private funding package totals $1 billion for the 17-acre site, which will be principally built around a 20,000-seat soccer palace in Sacramento’s downtown Railyards District.
Following that recent unanimous vote of support, Mayor Daniel Steinberg and Sacramento Republic FC principal owner Ron Burkle gather with team supporters. They all called on MLS to pull the switch and make theirs the next MLS expansion city.
Steinberg marveled at the expected benefits Sacramento Republic FC’s growth — all without city government writing a check.
