For the third time in the last four seasons, the Philadelphia Union made it into the playoffs, making it as far as they ever have before as they went through to the Conference semi-finals for only the second time in their ten-year history.
Philadelphia finished in third in the Eastern Conference and fifth in the overall Supporters’ Shield standings, their highest-ever finish in the regular season. After scraping past the New York Red Bulls in extra time in the first round, they came up against the reigning MLS Cup champions Atlanta United, with the Five Stripes taking the victory.
