After coming off their best season to date, the Philadelphia Union, under newly appointed Sporting Director, Ernst Tanner, have chosen to move the club in a new direction in 2019, utilizing a new style of play and a new formation.
While the Union have most recently found success playing a possession-based 4-2-3-1, in 2019, the Union have steered towards a trendier, high-pressing system, implementing a 4-4-2 diamond formation. While the team has returned most of their starters from 2018 and have landed their biggest signing to date in Mexican International Marco Fabian, the club have failed to meet expectations through their first three games, losing all three.
