New York City FC’s home stadium situation has become a problem again.
The Bronx-based club is scheduled to face AD San Carlos in the CONCACAF Champions League at the end of February.
But Yankee Stadium, their primary home stadium, was unavailable. They began looking for alternative venues, but CONCACAF rejected Belson Stadium in Queens, where NYCFC played a U.S. Open Cup match last summer. They also entertained the idea of playing at MCU Park, a minor league stadium in Coney Island that hosts the Brooklyn Cyclones.
In the end, they were forced to accept their worst possible option: playing at Red Bull Arena, the home of their bitter rivals.
