The North Carolina Courage hosted the Washington Spirit after a weather delay postponed the match a day. Both teams returned to WakeMed Soccer Park and the hosts took all three points with a 1-0 victory to place the Courage at the top of the NWSL standings.
The match started with the Courage on the front foot, Merritt Matthias taking a long-range effort that had to be tipped over the bar. Washington eventually found their rhythm and created chances themselves but were given a big obstacle when Paige Nelson was given a red card in the 24th minute.
