This weekend, the defending champions North Carolina Courage traveled to the league-leading Washington Spirit and were able to hold on for a vital three points in a 2-1 win to draw closer into playoff position.
Unfortunately for fans and players, the match was initially delayed due to weather, but once proceedings got underway, the Courage immediately dominated. North Carolina relentlessly pressed and created several chances to begin the game.
The Spirit would later settle in and create chances themselves, but it was the visitors who struck first in stoppage time of the first half when Debinha earned a penalty kick and knocked it home after initially seeing her effort saved.
