The North Carolina Courage took another step to defending their NWSL title when they defeated Reign FC 4-1 in front of their home crowd in WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon.
Just as they have all season, Paul Riley’s team started off on the front foot. However, it was not until the 87th minute when the Courage finally found the back of the net courtesy of Heather O’Reilly burying a penalty kick. That looked to be enough for the victory, but Reign FC quickly equalized in the 93rd minute with Ifeoma Onumonu slipping a shot past Carolina keeper Stephanie Labbé to send the game into extra time.
