The New York Red Bulls started their CONCACAF Champions League adventure on Wednesday night with a trip to the Dominican Republic to face Atletico Pantoja. It was a match that they were expected to win, but any away fixture in the CCL is tricky, especially when it is the first competitive contest of the 2019 campaign, with players still finding their match sharpness after a lengthy offseason, and this was a clear banana skin that could have gone wrong.
Thankfully for the Red Bulls, it didn’t. They controlled the game, scored two goals, the second of which was a lovely move, and return to Red Bull Arena with a two-goal cushion and a major advantage in the away goals standings.
